Barradise Lodge is situated on the Endeavour River, 10 kilometres upstream from Cooktown. If you like fishing bring a rod or borrow one of ours.

This 350 acre property has a river front riparian zone about a kilometre long, attracting a host of bird and animal life.

Self contained cabinsThe lodge is a contemporary Queensland homestead style building with cool wide verandahs surrounded by tropical gardens with a free form swimming pool.

All rooms have fans, split system air-conditioning and en suite but toilet facilities are shared. The pool has a cool tropical gazebo next to it. Breakfasts are great up here, you must try our mud crab omelettes with crispy bacon. Barradise Lodge is not suitable for children

Cooktown Catch a Crab tours provide personalised river charters which allow you to choose a river trip that caters to your interests. You have the choice of chartering the 6 metre fibreglass boat, "Motataku" on an hourly basis or you can enjoy a half-day tour (4hours). Both of these trips are skippered by Nicko, a Fishing cooktownCooktown local who will ensure you enjoy your trip. From the moment you step on board you can take part in a range of activities such as: crabbing, bird watching, seasonal croc spotting, photography and sunset tours. Or if you prefer ,simply sit back and enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the historic Endeavour River.

Tours include morning or afternoon tea. The half-day trips include a lunch of locally caught mud crab. Cooktown Catch a Crab provides you with a service to suit your holiday requirements.

Offering live-bait, lure, fly and coarse fishing for all the great northern fish, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, Mackerel, Trevally, Bream, Queenfish and Grunter in the areas many rivers. Gadget' is a purpose-built, 5.3m punt with electric motors, live wells and esky. Powered by a 60hp Mercury outboard.

Some excellent fishing can be found in the Endeavour River. Fish free-lined, live herring whilst underway with an electric motor. 50cm Jacks really test 10kg outfits. Cast lures and flies to the numerous snags and fallen giants of the Rainforest that litter the waterway. Spend some time improving your techniques, honing your skills and picking up lots of tips.

Fishing tours Inclusions - All bait and quality tackle provided. Morning and afternoon tea and lunch also provided.

2 hour Sightseeing Tours

Experience the Endeavour river from Gadget. Hear about this diverse rivers history. Lined with over 25 speicies of mangrove, the upper reaches narrow and become screeks lined with palms and rainforest flora.

Wildlife is abundant, using the supplied binoculars and reference books, view jabirius, ospreys, sea-eagles, herons and the Great Billed Heron. Of course no trip is complete without seeing a croc, have your camera at the ready.

This trip takes a maximum of 4 people and focuses on a personalised, interpretive experience for the nature lover.

Motataku, a 5.8 metre Southwind all purpose vessel. This fibreglass long boat is a safe and comfortable way to get to the Great Barrier Reef.

The beauty of the Great Barrier Reef is yours to experience when you cruise to the reef with Nicko.You will be able to snorkel among some of the Reef's most spectacular coral gardens and diverse marine life. This is an excellent way to see the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and is suited to a wide range of abilities from children and beginners to the experienced snorkeller.

Nicko even provides opportunities for non-swimmers to view the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet. Plant corals, gorgonian fan, blue coral, brain coral are just a few of the many varieties of hard and soft corals to be seen on one of Nicko's snorkelling trios. Fish watching is the aquatic counterpart of bird watching and a basic knowledge of common reef fishes can add considerable enjoyment to your diving activities. Nicko will help you compile a checklist of what you have seen on your day to the reef and help you label your underwater photos.
